What would you say are the 3 best intro-level books on individuation and how to begin the individuation process? I already have some ideas, like "Man and his Symbols" by Carl Jung and "Inner Work" by Robert Johnson.

One way or another, the world is going to be made a single whole entity. But it will be unified either in mutual mass destruction or by means of mutual human consciousness.

If a sufficient number of individuals can have the experience of the coming of the Self as an individual, inner experience, we may just possibly be spared the worst features of its external manifestation."

But the person is anchored within a greater, universal identity. Salt remnants of ancient oceans flow through our veins, ashes of expired stars rekindle in our genetic chemistry. The oldest of the atoms, hydrogen— whose primacy among the elements should have gained it a more poetically resonant name—is a cosmic theme; mysteriously elaborated billions-fold, it has created from Nothing the Everything that includes us." (p. 319)
—Theodore Roszak (1992)

How does this resonate with you? What part of our existence is merely genealogical, evolutionary, biological? How does that "two million year old [hu]man" in each of us show up in our modern lives? What do we carry over from our ancestors, both near and distant? Is there a bigger pattern at work, and do we have any say in our own evolution?....

Cavalli, Ph.D.https://depthpsychologyalliance.com/members/ThomFCavalliPhD

Archetypes have no meaning without historical context. Jungian psychology involves more than reflecting on the past or focusing on otherworldly concepts - it has immediate application to the present, both individually and collectively. The bloody events in Cairo and throughout the Middle East lend themselves to a radical change in geopolitical power and for our purpose, serve as a model of cultural identity and "collective individuation." I invite members who are interested in this intersection between the ancient past and current events in Egypt to join the Online Book Club. Currently, I have posed the question: What do the events in Egypt today have to do with a five thousand year old myth – the myth of Osiris?

NEW INTERVIEW: Astrology and Depth Psychology-Bonnie Bright Interviewed by Barbara Arias-Yuruvichhttps://depthpsychologyalliance.com/forum/topics/new-interview-astrology-and-depth-psychology-bonnie-bright2020-10-22T21:53:37.000Z2020-10-22T21:53:37.000ZBonnie Brighthttps://depthpsychologyalliance.com/members/BonnieBright

Sharing my recent interview for “Deep Journeys” by Barbara Yuruvich-Arias, who is not only an amazing and knowledgeable Astrologer, but also an excellent interviewer.

In this conversation, entitled “Depth Psychology & Astrology,” we discuss concepts of Depth Psychology—including archetypes, the unconscious, individuation, and divination, among others—and how Depth Psychology (or Soul-Centered Psychology as I'm thinking about it these days) dovetails with Astrology. Barbara begins the program with a fascinating in-depth look at how my chart and hers entertwine,

And, as Barbara notes, “There's a lot of very rich content in this show for those souls looking to do the inner Soul/Self work.” Enjoy!

Made what I thought was a terrific find of this article from the C.G. Jung Society by Edward Whitmont, a founding member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology and the C. G. Jung Institute of New York. I find his book, The Symbolic Quest, remarkably insightful. It was, by the way, one of the first tomes documenting the application of Jung's teachings to the practice of psychotherapy. Whitmont actually knew Jung and they corresponded regularly.

Here is the article: The Destiny Concept in Psychotherapy which looks at trauma and pathology as agents for individuation and, therefore, destiny in the life of an individual.
