James Hillman once said he preferred to be called a “renegade psychologist” and “champion of psyche” as opposed to "Archetypal Psychologist". (See mythopoetry link below). He also used the word "revolution" on numerous times to get across his determined approach. I am just wondering if Depth Psychologists here think that Hillman's more aggressive style (relative to most Jungians I come across) is a plus or minus? For example its not the introverted style that characterizes the Jungian stereotype.

In the book "Lament of the Dead", co-authored with Sonu Shamdasani he says "I often say dont use the word ego. Ive never seen one" (Hillman, 2013, p8). Yet I guess that some people may see revolution as some kind of hero quest?

So does this kind of determination go with depth psychology or is it inconsistent? I would be curious to hear some of your thoughts on this.
