PROS: Opening the Alliance to the public would:
- · Allow everyone to access and read all pages in the site without having to become members. Therefore content would be proliferated at a rate many thousands of times over. Right now only about 2500 people in the world (current members) can see it and benefit from it.
- · Content (events, blogs, etc.) could be shared by anyone on social media like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Currently there’s a button to do so, but it only goes to a link to the home page and people may be frustrated because they can’t see the actual link or direct content/article/video, etc. that was posted. This would give authors of blogs and people who post events far more motivation to do so as their exposure would increase exponentially.
- · Raise visitor traffic and ratings in search engines like Google exponentially
- · Potentially find it’s way to individuals who have never heard of Jungian or depth psychology and who would likely never have gone searching for it
- · Allow the Alliance to become more like a Facebook for the depth community
- · Allow us to generate income from advertising if we ever decide to do so because the ads would be exposed to so many more than the current 2500 members.
NOTE: In order to post an event, blog, response, or participate in discussion, individuals would still need to become a member to do so (but the questions required to become a member could be minimized so it’s easier for people to join).
NOTE 2: We can still stipulate that any of the "groups" be by approved membership only
POTENTIAL CONS / Questions to consider:
- · Will people feel "safe" enough commenting and posting? (All material posted on the Alliance is already able to be found and viewed on search engines even though you currently have to be a member to view the site. There's nothing we can do to change it.)
- · Will people who were forced to join by answering the questions be resentful?
- · Will the membership grow if people can read everything they want?
- · Do we care if membership grows?
NOTE: We can put any portion of the Alliance behind a “PayWall” where people must pay to access, but on the current platform we can’t actually make some parts accessible without membership and some not unless it’s by using the PayWall and making them pay. Even though it seems ideal, it’s just a limitation in the system we have no control over at the moment.

I suspect that having it open is a good idea, but it will require monitoring.
