I had seen this article before, but came across it again and wanted to share it here. Jung's visit to Taos Pueblo and his encounter with the chief, Mountain Lake, clearly had a significant impact on Jung, deepening his belief that humans need a sense of their individual and cultural significance to be psychologically healthy.
For me, this idea is at the core of ecopsychology, for if we have no sense of our own ecology, our "home base" so to speak ("eco" is related to "home" in Greek), of the way we fit in nature and culture and the way it fits in us, how can we ever have a sense of our true selves?
I hope you enjoy reading this short article as much as I did--and let us know what you think: Lessons of Jung's Encounter with Native Americans
