Announcing a New Depth Psychology AllianceQuarterly Publication: “Depth Insights”
Depth Insights is a new quarterly e-zine that will bedistributed to all participating members of Depth PsychologyAlliance and those interested in the fields of Depth and JungianPsychologies.
Whether you are a seasoned and published writer or someone newto the game, I encourage you to put your passion toward extendingDepth Psychology into the world through your writing. The varioustopics/sections of the E-zine to which you can submit include thefollowing:
- Depth Psychology (People, Theory, History, Biography,Concepts): This work would be focused on the life, work, andtheories of Freud, Jung, or other Jungians or post-Jungians likeMarie-Louise von Franz, Edward Edinger, Wolfgang Giegerich, RafaelLopez-Pedraza (who just passed away) or James Hillman. For example,it may expound on some aspect of Jung’s Life and Work, includingany of the various Jungian concepts such as shadow, complexes, dreams, individuation, ego, Self, alchemy, etc. This may include apsychological, historical, or biographical perspective or focus onan event like Jung’s visit to the Taos pueblo or his long-timeexchange of letters with physicist Wolfgang Pauli.
- Archetype or Symbol: This would ideally be an essay thatexplores one particular archetype or symbol. For example, you maychoose to write on the archetype of the Mother, War, Vampire, etc.or you may choose to expound on a dream symbol or something innature that is significant to you.
- Ecopsychology and Nature: This work could describe yourown experience in nature or a particular aspect of nature thatrelates to the human psyche, personal or collective. It couldfeature a current or past environmental or ecological issue.
- Current or Past Events: This would include a depthpsychological take on events that seize your imagination. For me,it was the issue of the vanishing honeybees from Colony CollapseDisorder which I compared to how our egos go out to gatherexperience but are failing to return “home to the hive” forintegration and sacred communion. I have also written about themassive earthquake in Haiti and its aftermath. For you, it may be atake on what’s happening (still) with the oil spill in the Gulf ofMexico, the recent and ongoing uprisings in the Middle East, or thesudden loss of electricity that lasted for days during a recentpowerful winter storm.
- Places: A depth or eco (or terra) psychological look atone particular place can be an homage to that place and a powerfulread for others.
- Shamanism or Indigenous topics including butnot limited to discussion of concepts, practices, traditions, history or contemporary issues faced by indigenous peoples.
- Esoteric topics: Many of you are gifted practitioners ofastrology, I-ching, Tarot, divination techniques, and otheresoteric subjects that also fascinated C.G. Jung himself. Pleaseshare your expertise and submit any of your work which you thinkothers who are interested in depth psychology may benefit.
- Film Analysis: This would include a depth psychological, archetypal, symbolic, or alchemical take on a film (from any era).I recently did an alchemical take on “Black Swan” and I’ve seenvarious good interpretations of Avatar, the Matrix, and otherblockbusters. However, we are equally interested in smaller andmore obscure movies so don’t hold back if something is speaking toyour psyche.
- Book review of any book you find relevant anddepth-psychology-related – especially welcome if they are new inthe field, although anything that grips you is welcome.
- Poetry: Original pieces of any length and style arewelcome for submission
- Artwork: Photos or scanned images of original artwork inany medium are welcome. We prefer a TIFF image, but alarge/high-resolution Jpeg is also fine.
