We live in a culture that doesn't understand metaphor or I don't understand the metaphors of the culture in which I live?
When someone makes a pronouncement like "the culture" doesn't understand this or "Generation Y" doesn't understand that (almost always spoken by some that's never been a Millennial) or 99% of "the population" doesn't understand poetry (kudos foe having the guts to identify with the 1%) I think "Ummmm...."
I'm guilty of it too. It's easy to say that "they" don't "understand" something that you do. It's not as easy to question whether it's you that is misunderstanding.
Not saying she's wrong.
