Carl Jung was deeply concerned about the environment, and believed that a Western paradigm shift was necessary if we are to avert a disaster. He coined the terms "New Age" and "Age of Aquarius" to describe this paradigm shift, envisioning an age of greater feminine energy, the emergence of new spiritual forms, and possibility of people experiencing an "ensouled" world, an eco-consciousness. In this lecture, we will explore the archetypal roots of the problem in our Western philosophical and religious traditions, in the rise of science and technology, and the effects of corporate culture, plus consider some of the major changes which have to occur to deal with climate change.

Dennis Merritt, Ph.D., is a Jungian psychoanalyst, therapist/psychotherapist and ecopsychologist who has been in private practice in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin since 1983. He has worked with individual adults across the spectrum of mental disorders and life's difficulties. Dream work and use of the I Ching, in analysis are are important components of his approach. He incorporates sandplay therapy as a subtle yet powerful form of active imagination. He integrates elements of psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, brief therapy and Winnicott into a Jungian ecopsychological perspective.
