ot your ordinary drawing class, this is a rendezvous with the unexpected; a continuous drawing “workout” in an experimental, ever-changing environment. The first three sessions will be an introduction; the next three with a performer in a partially staged ephemeral atmosphere are self-directed. Music and theatrical lighting fill the room with energy that inspires. The Drawing Circus distinguishes itself through its deliberately diverse crossover of artistic disciplines. It challenges preconceived ideas and attitudes toward creativity. Stanton says, “What we generally take for real these days takes us further and further from the actual experience of what it is to ‘see.’ The process of making art is also an art form in and of itself. The Drawing Circus is in essence a collective and cooperative courage incubator.”
Open to anyone: nonartists, wannabe artists, hobbyists, and serious exhibiting artists. Everyone can benefit from this unique experience.
Edward Stanton holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the Kansas City Art Institute (1968) and an MA and MFA in Creative Photography, Drawing and Art History from the University of Iowa, 1970 and 1971. He has been the director of the photography programs at SUNY Alfred and the University of Oregon and taught photography, drawing color and design at UCLA, CSU Fullerton, SFSU and Stanford.
