Fire: How can depth psychology contribute to our understanding and effectiveness in dealing with the challenges of climate change and global warming?
One promising avenue may be to listen in to the symptoms of escalating planetary heat from a Jungian and mythological perspective. And we can search for a deeper understanding of the psychological numbness and lack of fiery passion that impede our collective efforts to take meaningful action against life-destroying behaviors that threaten survival. How can we ignite our souls to undertake the efforts we must make? And what indigenous and modern fiery rituals might aid us? Can we fight destructive fire with rejuvenating fire?
Our special speakers include Paloma Pavel and Carl Anthony will speak on "The Earth, the City, and the Hidden Narrative of Race: Pathways for Eco-psychology Creating Climate Justice." Ismana Carney, author of Women’s Ways with Fire: Transforming Self in the Heart of Nature, will help us understand the healing power of the fiery ritual. Ecophilosopher and phenomenologist Edward Casey will help us explore Gaston Bachelard’s Psychoanalysis of Fire, and Linda Buzzell will lead us in exploring the critical question “Where’s the Fire?” opening a discussion of why so many in our culture remain dangerously disconnected from and cool about the escalating environmental crisis.
