The Healing Power of Place

Clare Cooper Marcus will take you on a soulful journey through images and words to the magical Scottish island of Iona, based on her new book, Iona Dreaming. You will hear how she first visited this place during cancer treatment and then lived there on six-month solitary retreat. The island landscape awakened her soul and dreams pointed the way to changes needed in her life after retirement from academia. Participants will be encouraged to think about their own special healing places and how these can provide solace and guidance. Refreshments served.
Clare Cooper Marcus is professor emerita in the departments of architecture and landscape architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, and author of Healing Gardens: Therapeutic Benefits and Design Recommendations and The House as Mirror of Self.
