The Tarot is an intriguing symbol system emerging from the Italian Renaissance. Long associated with psychics and fortunetellers, its imagery is evocative, multi-layered, and remarkably rich psychologically. Through the 20thcentury, Tarot’s evolution has been heavily influenced by Jungian thought, although ironically Jung’s writing on the subject is sparse. This lecture explores a Jungian approach to the deck of possibility.

Art Rosengarten, MA, PhDis a clinical psychologist in private practice, Director of Moonlight Counseling in north San Diego County, and teaches Live Online Tarot Seminars at MoonlightTarot.com.  Among the leading scholars of modern Tarot in the world, he wrote the first accredited doctoral dissertation on Tarot as a method for accessing the unconscious and is a pioneer in the emerging discipline.  He is one of only a few psychologists worldwide to have successfully implemented Tarot card readings within his psychological practice, as a supplemental tool utilized at critical points in a person’s growth not unlike dream analysis or other tools of active imagination. He is author of five books on the Tarot, including Tarot and Psychology: Spectrums of Possibility, Tarot of the Nine Paths: Advanced Tarot for the Spiritual Traveler, and his most recent work, Tarot of the Future: Raising Spiritual Consciousness.
