This lecture focuses on issues related to the coming out of gay and lesbian Iranians. In general, many members of the Iranian and non-Iranian LGBT community struggle with coming out issues. Having a better understanding about internalized homophobia and growing up gay in a homophobic culture can only assist clinicians in providing more effect treatment.
Dr. Payam Ghassemlou MFT, Ph.D. is licensed in the state of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Since he began his training and internship in 1992, he has been helping individuals and couples from different walks of life and sexual orientations to live happier and more meaningful lives. Currently, Dr. Ghassemlou provides individual therapy in his private practice in West Hollywood. He also teaches first-year medical students at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Here, he instructs medical students on topics related to the patient-doctor relationship.
