The Gospel of Mary is an extraordinary ancient document of Mary Magdalene's teachings, rediscovered at the end of the 19th century in Egypt. In it, Mary Magdalene is depicted as the spiritual leader who guides the disciples after Jesus's death, strengthens their courage and reveals teachings that Jesus gave to her alone.  Harvard professor Karen King writes that this is a work “ that can lead the reader inward toward the identity, power and freedom of the true self”, a book that has much to teach us about finding liberation from ignorance. In our six week seminar, we will delve into this fascinating text and explore its Gnostic background. Each week will consist of teaching, personal writing reflection and small group discussion.

Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D is a cultural historian, mythologist and spiritual director whose classes on Mary Magdalene at UC Berkeley, Dominican University, Sonoma State and for the San Francisco Opera have been lauded as “brilliant and moving”, “ a fascinating blend of scholarship and passion” and “ truly transformative – an utter revelation”.
