When a client reports a recurring dream, nightmare, or epic saga, how do you respond?
Since our clinical education historically has lacked courses on how to actually work with dreams, we may be stymied as to how to make good use of what they offer. This seminar provides therapists practical guidelines for exploring dreams in any clinical setting. The emphasis is not on making theoretical interpretations but on helping dreams come to life by careful attention to their storyline. Each meeting includes didactic presentation plus exploration of dream material brought in by participants or supplied by the instructor. Suitable for therapists of any theoretical orientation or experience level.
Topics to be covered:
• Obtaining dreams from clients in any setting
• Using initial dreams for diagnosis and prognosis
• Recognizing basic symbols of the self: car, house, plant
• Crafting good questions to unpack dream content
• Linking core themes and metaphors to clients’ issues
• Keeping dreams in transitional space for mutual exploration
• Identifying markers that correlate with psychodynamic categories

Meredith Sabini, PhD, is a Licensed Psychologist in the field since 1972, director of The Dream Institute, and widely published author. She has specialized in dream training and consultation for thirty years.
