Recent surveys show that dreams have dropped off our profession’s map and that even psychoanalysts may complete their education with little or no training in how to actually work with client dreams. Fortunately, a sea change is underway from the former model of theory-based interpretation toward active, mutual engagement with clients around their dreams.
This program will provide guidelines for bringing dreams to life through careful attention to specifics in the storyline. It is draws on therapists’ natural skills at asking thoughtful questions, making astute observations, and offering sensitive reflections. The program is suitable for clinicians of any orientation and experience level. Specifically, those attending will learn how to:
· obtain dreams from clients in any clinical setting
· put dreams in transitional space for mutual exploration
· craft questions, based on dream content, to open discussion
· link core dream themes and metaphors to clients’ issues
