The abuse of women and girls continues to be, as former US President Jimmy Carter stated, “the most pervasive and unaddressed human rights violation on earth.”

The unconscious roots of feminine oppression often lie hidden behind manifestations of violence that  leave us seeing red and merely reacting. In order to be pro-active, to stop the violence before it starts, we must begin by illuminating the unconscious archetypal patterns which inform it .

The Assisi Institute’s Seeing Red initiative is designed to facilitate a deep integration of the analytic and the artistic in order to make room for a profound relationship to the psyches and souls of women around the world. Through an archetypal understanding of feminine oppression and a creative response that is able to bring the unconscious into the light of day, it is our intention that the results of this inter-disciplinary study will result in a new way of seeing and of being seen.

Conference sessions will focus on an innovative juxtaposition of global, inter-generational, interdisciplinary perspectives rooted in an analytic and artistic foundation for a creative re-visioning and re-articulation of feminine identity and its expression in contemporary culture.

Presenters include:

Exploring Feminine Identities—Actress, Artist, Activist - Ananda Bena-Weber, MFA

The Neuropsychological Imprint of Feminine Oppression—Efrat Ginot, Ph.D, Author of The Neuropsychology of the Unconscious
