THE OBJECTIVE PSYCHE:
Vital Counterpoint to Subjectivity
with Meredith Sabini, John Beebe, Peter Dunlap
4.5 hours May 7 1-5:30pm
The “objective psyche” denotes universal aspects of human nature that draw upon our species’ accumulated wisdom to construe and adapt to reality. It has a recognized place in neuroscience, anthropology, and evolutionary psychology. Though the social sciences have set parameters for language acquisition, attachment, and developmental stages, for instance, our clinical profession has yet to recognize the scope of the psyche’s objectivity. The presenters in this symposium will elucidate the concept of the objective psyche and demonstrate how it manifests in the clinical hour, in dreams, and in the public arena.
