Is our current environmental crisis summoning us for initiation and new perspective on individuation? Are we being asked to grow into something larger than the consciousness we have known, to re-evaluate our experience of psyche and matter (land, animals, plants)? In contrast to the many tools the scientific age has championed, both Carl Jung (analytical psychology) and Rudolf Steiner (Biodynamic Agriculture) addressed what Jung called "the living substance," offering spiritual tools which can help use to navigate the immense issue we now face. The common, definitive root of both of these men's teachings is in the writings and scientific studies of Goethe, as both Jung and Steiner were deeply influenced by Goether's work. What is the "living substance" and what supports the "living substance" in ourselves and the other, including the not-human? What undermines its liveliness? Practical application in the dynamics of "being in relationship with" and "dominion over" will be given, whether in analysis or our relationship to the environment.
