Engraved within the soul of every person are links to those who have come before us. Our ancestors are the source of our collective narratives, visions and fears. They may also hold the key to understanding our personal struggles.

For some people, dealing with their ancestry involves confronting war trauma, alcoholism, madness or violence; for others it is about coming to terms with the choices their predecessors made. While we may find that some bonds with our past need repair, others may need to be released. Yet, this journey may also uncover powerful insights and wisdom to ground us in our ancestral roots and inspire us to move forward.

Join us in this insightful exploration! Using story-theatre techniques, text, movement, Playback Theatre, dramatic resonances, sociodrama, and integrating the archetypal images that emerge from our process, we will build towards the creation and performance of a personal and collective ritual.

This intensive workshop will help participants explore their ancestry, place it in a cultural context, redefine its bonds and become a possible source of inspiration for how to live their lives.

This four-day workshop/training is for drama and creative arts therapists, psychotherapists, social workers, life coaches, human service professionals, educators, community leaders, spiritual guidance counselors, group facilitators, actors, theatre workers, teachers, or anyone interested in exploring their ancestral legacies.

The International Institute of Applied and Therapeutic Theatre is a collaborative project developed by psychotherapists and drama therapists Armand Volkas and Susana Pendzik, with the aim of promoting the exchange of ideas, traditions, and methods, related to the application of theatre in the social domain.

Healing the Wounds of History is a process in which psychotherapy, drama and expressive arts therapy techniques are used to work with a group of participants who share a common legacy of historical trauma. The process was developed by Armand Volkas, the son of Auschwitz survivors and resistance fighters from World War II.
