Psychotherapist Urana Jackson has worked with youth and their families for more than twenty years as an educator, trainer, and mental health clinician in public schools and the private sector.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and now settled with the San Francisco Bay Area, she received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2005. Urana has created and facilitated social-emotional youth development curricula for various agencies and institutions, as well as worked as an educator and mental health clinician in public schools and the private sector. She conducts presentations and trainings for schools on incorporating innovative mental health practices and integrating spirituality into social-emotional learning.
Urana Jackson leads workshops for adolescent girls based on the curriculum featured in Girls Rising. In addition, she has a private counseling practice in Napa and Oakland, working primarily with girls and women ages twelve to thirty-five. She is also a creative agent, and her longtime personal meditation practice and involvement in the Native American spiritual community has influenced her work tremendously. Girls Rising is her first book. She resides in Oakland, CA.
