Hanno W. Kirk, PhD, LICSW, has been a teacher, trainer and author for the past 35 years. He has a wide ranging and eclectic background from studying nuclear strategy and international law at UCLA, to human development in the ARICA Institute, to clinical social work, to end of life care, and more recently to neuroscience. In 2006 after touring the United States with a seminar entitled “Is it ADHD or Pediatric Bipolar: Differential Diagnosis and Effective Treatment,” he developed an intense interest in the functioning of the brain. He became trained as a practitioner of Neurofeedback and has been using it in his private psychotherapy practice ever since.
Some unexplained failures with Neurofeedback with two young autistic women led him to explore biomedical issues that can interfere with brain functioning. This led him in 2014 to assemble a team of experts to produce the book he edited Restoring the Brain: Neurofeedback as an Integrative Approach to Health, which was just published by Taylor and Francis Press. In September of this year he and his wife (who specializes in psychological trauma work), were invited to go to Dharamsala, India to attend a four day teaching event by the Dalai Lama. They were granted a private audience with the Dalai Lama, who is very interested in neuroscience. It was a defining highlight of their lives.
