Andy Matzner is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist. He also is adjunct faculty at Virginia Western Community College (in the mental health and psychology programs) and Hollins University (Gender and Women’s Studies). In addition to his MSW, Andy has a master’s degree in anthropology and a master’s in European Languages and Literatures (perhaps one day he’ll be able to trade them all in for a PhD). As a therapist, Andy specializes in serving transgender clients in southwest Virginia (where resources are quite slim).
He is the author of ‘O Au No Keia: Voices from Hawaii’s Mahu and Transgender Communities (2001); Male Bodies, Women’s Souls: Personal Narratives of Thailand’s Transgendered Youth (co-authored with LeeRay Costa, 2007); and The Buddha Diet: A Guide to Creating a Positive Relationship with Food and Eating (2012). Andy is also a tarot card reader, and has recently published The Tarot Activity Book: A Collection of Creative and Therapeutic Uses for the Cards (2013).
