Its big "news" today that a shrimp boat trawling the newly opened waters north of the Deepwater Horizon/BP Oil spill site brought in a huge load of fresh shrimp--along with an alarming amount of tar balls and oil: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/23/shrimp-boat-hauls-in-tar-_n_787411.html. It's also hard to miss the significance in the name of the shrimp boat itself: "Our Mother". It's a frightening reminder for everyone who has managed to demote the memory of the disastrous oil eruption in the precious Gulf into something that is long dealt-with and "contained". I'm reminded of Jung's warning, "The facts of nature cannot in the long run be violated. Penetrating and seeping through everything like water, they will undermine any system that fails to take account of them and sooner or later they will bring about its downfall” (Collected Works 16, par 227).
