Benjamin E. Caldwell is a Los Angeles-based family therapist (CA license #42723) with expertise in ethics and advocacy issues. He is the featured speaker for the Networking Luncheon at the 2016 AAMFT Annual Conference in Indianapolis, where he will be discussing his book Saving Psychotherapy. Dr. Caldwell teaches for graduate programs at California State University Northridge and the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. His research has been published in the Journal of Marriage and Family Therapy, American Journal of Family Therapy, and the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage, among others. He is the author of Basics of California Law for LMFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs, a textbook used at graduate programs around the state and by clinicians as a desk reference. The fourth edition of Basics is scheduled for release in early 2017.
Dr. Caldwell currently serves as chair for the Legislative and Advocacy Committee of the AAMFT California Division. In this role, he was instrumental in the development and language of California’s first-in-the nation ban on reparative therapy for minors. For this work, he received the AAMFT Division Contribution Award in 2013.
