"It is an undeniable fact that the quest of the unknown was as unmistakable a feature of ancient civilizations as it is now. There was as persistent a search for the spiritual and the supernatural and as strong a thirst in countless people for the acquirement of supernormal powers and for tearing aside the veil that hides the beyond..."~Gopi Krishna, Kundalini, p. 76 (psychological commentary in the book by James Hillman, Shambhala, 1978)
.....and I would add, maybe MORE so in ancient civilizations. What if more of us today were so thirsty to understand and become more conscious, to actually develop a relationship with the "beyond"....how would the world look different today?
In the depth community, I do see this desire arising, and it probably explains the growing number of people seeking enlightenment experiences through the use of drugs, somatic experiences, breathwork, plant medicine, etc. However, it also contributes to "New Age" thinking that doesn't seem very rooted in the depths or connected to reality. How do we find the balance?
