Here's the information to access the Alliance Board call THIS Sunday. I'm proposing we use a phone line this time for quality of voice and so we can actually have efficient conversation without dealing with the finicky-ness of Skype video.
 
HOWEVER, having said that, it would still be nice to be able to see everyone as we are just getting to know one another and to be able remember faces. SO--I''m also proposing if you call in from a phone, we can still connect on Skype video but turn the sound off on our computers so we see each other on screen while hearing each other via phone. I've done this before and it works pretty well.
 
For those of you who don't want to pay for the phone call, you can use Skype to dial to a regular phone line for just a couple cents per minute, so it's really cheap. OR you can actually dial in for FREE as if you were dialing another Skype user. There are detailed instructions on how to do this below. You won't be able to dial in by Skype AND do the Skype video though because everyone will have their sound turned off and won't be able to hear you speak.
 
Eventually, after we know each others' faces and personalities a bit, we can probably use Skype with voice only and that way it's free--or maybe we'll switch to Google hangout, which is supposed to be more manageable than Skype video. I just haven't had time to give it a test run.
 
Meanwhile, below is the dial in information. You'll notice there's a link to (try) to find a local number to dial. Some bigger cities have optional lines that would be charged locally so you don't have to pay long distance. I don't want this to be a major expense for anyone, so if you run into those issues, let me know directly and I can help find a solution. 
 
You can also "listen" to the event online using the link below, but you won't be able to speak so it's not really recommended. I'd love for everyone to be heard.
 
Please comment below to RSVP and confirm if you will dial in by phone or by Skype so I know who to patch in on the Skype video and just have your Skype open and ready so I can call you if you want that option. I'll post an agenda separately, and hope to keep the meeting to no more than an hour or so.

TO DIAL IN WITH SKYPE:

1) Add the name "joinconference" to your Skype contact list (don't use the quotations, no phone number or anything else required)
2) Once the "joinconference" contact is added to the contacts list, it will automatically be accepted. 
3) Then--to connect to the conference, just click on that "joinconference" from your contacts list. It will automatically connect the call.
4) Finally, once connected to the call, you still have to enter the PIN code provided (above). To do that--they just open the dial pad (under the "Call" menu at top if you need help finding it). Then, from the dial pad, dial the code--and that's it.

  • Thanks everyone. Here's a followup I just emailed you all and am posting here so it's in the "archives." Please feel free to comment--and if anyone has notes from this morning they'd like to share here, please don't hesitate. Esther mentioned it early on but we should probably have "minutes" posted from each meeting. Maybe we can do that next time. Meanwhile, here's the email;

    "Thanks for the wonderful session this morning. I felt it was already more efficient than our first meeting and felt it moved at just the right pace to cover so many important issues we are contemplating. Let the discussion continue!--and I think we'll soon start seeing some of it morph into action as we cohere as a group.
    Meanwhile, just a quick note to let you know i've placed an icon--a small bee--on the left side of the Alliance home page just below the description in the top left--and just above the bright yellow donate button. If you click on the bee, it will take you directly to the Board Discussion page. I'm not sure it's ideal for placement--but I'm somewhat limited in options so for now, I'll leave it.
    On another note, I'm including below a screen shot of what a member sees who is NOT a member of our Board group. I also logged in under another name and checked some of our "pages"--mine and a couple others. When I was logged in as the other member, my own page didn't even show I MADE posts in the Board group--let alone what they were. When I am logged in as myself, I see that I made posts--AND I see what they were and the titles are clickable links that take me straight to my post. I was certain of this already--but wanted to confirm to you so you all could feel secure about it.
    With regret, I've removed Shane from the online Board Group and changed the photo collage. I'll need to change it and remove his info elsewhere as well and will do that soon.
