Web Site Revamp Task Force

This task force is responsible for revisiting the home page and site navigation to simplify and make it more navigable, as well as to reinforce our evolving vision.

Members currently consist of Bonnie, Craig, and Eva, with Mark as chair of Membership Experience committed to lend his insight as he can.

I’ve put together a rough document that lists out the links and posits a couple of options for reorganizing the links. What we’re looking for MIGHT possibly be completely different or far beyond just moving links around—like maybe the home page is just a beehive and you click on various bees to get to various options for example, or maybe we present an image that is a “pollinator pathway” where there’s a clear path for various segments of our audience: Therapists, Workshop providers, Writers, Newbies, etc.
Perhaps for the short term we can aim to do something that is transitional but quick so we can open the site to the public sooner than later and at least have a home page that is presentable for a larger viewing public seeing us for the first time.

  • Just a quick update. I've engaged someone to help build us a new home page in WordPress and then combine links down to 5-6 main links with everything else falling under it. I'd like for us to have an illustration bases on the metaphor of bees as some of us have discussed that will lead people to various videos, posts, and pages that will help them get oriented on the site. I particularly like the layout of this site: http://www.pollinatorpathway.com -- and think it might make a good general model for us.

    • Hurrah! Having a landing page with just 5-6 links sounds sooo good. Also, I always appreciate when a site offers some spaciousness when I land--your model offers that with the map and the lights. I say keep some space like that in mind as an option when designing. Finally, I had the thought of adding butterflies to your bee thematics. Bees: work, struggle, building, collective/community, hive, pollination...Butterflies: individuating, beauty, psyche, transformation, pollinating...But could get too pretty! or too garden-y..? An idea that felt though like it expands reflection and deepens themes. No attachment to it otherwise.

Glad to here of the movement here.

      Carry on!

    • Thanks Bonnie,

Great! I looked at it and it seems very well organized. I too, am envisioning the "Bee" and Beehive theme. What do you think about links coming from the hive itself and something like a bee functioning as a cursor? Is that too complicated? Also, the bee colors of yellow and black as you already have it appearing would be bright and cheery and refer back to light out of night/dark.

I look forward to our next meeting on Friday at 2pm PT. Good to be back! Lots to catch up on!

      Thanks for the model!

  • Hey Bonnie,

I Have printed your document for re-visioning the website and will dream into it asap and share anything that comes through.

    • Mark, this is a great idea: incubate the dream, see what images and ideas come out of the depths.
