I spent the weekend catching-up – re-reading Four Eradigms, Transrevolution, Zombies, and Earthrise plus listening to Craig’s podcast with Carolyn Baker (which is excellent btw) & Anne Baring’s talk on Awakening the Feminine from the Synchronicity conference at Joshua Tree. Whew – a poignant & thought/feeling provoking weekend.
As I again read through Four Eradigms, a few thoughts came up.
The first was the quote from Passion of the Western Mind (Tarnas, 1991) which says that “each epochal transformation in the history of the Western mind appears to have been initiated by a kind of archetypal sacrifice.” Seems like we have a number of sacrifices to make as we move out of the eradigm of Big Machine, but wonder if our heroic stance may be the biggest psychological shift that must happen?
The other was just a wondering if eradigms were something like Jean Gebser’s structures of consciousness (archaic, mythical, magical, mental, integral) or would those be more paradigms?
Liked the idea that paradigms are not a linear development but “a coloring in of different parts of the collective mind.”
