Alaya A. Dannu replied to Depth Alliance Board's discussion Members, how do you define depth psychology?
"Depth Psychology...consider the role of the word 'Depth' [as was previously mentioned]. How far is psychology today willing to go?
And what is the agenda? Is it to map out a guide or to be definitive? We all know [should know] that one size clearly…"

  • Hi Alaya. Apologies AND a slightly belated welcome to the online depth psychology community. It's great to have you here. I'm so glad you've jumped in with both feet.

As you may know, we currently have nearly 1500 members here from all over the world. I hope as you explore the community a bit you find a dynamic group of like-minded people who are all deeply drawn by the field of depth psychology. While there are many Jungian analysts and clinical psychologists here, our members come from many walks of life--artists, writers, doctors, healing professionals, counselors, students, business people, etc--so there is much cross-disciplinary knowledge and experience here to be shared.

Also you may want to consider participating in the online book club if you haven't already: In August we're featuring Deep Blues: Human Soundscapes for the Archetypal Journey about Blue... with Dr. Mark Winborn. Since the Book Club is all done via writing in an open forum, you can participate at your own level and schedule.

In case you need detailed help getting started and navigating the site, you can use the following link---- http://www.depthpsychologyalliance.com/page/navigating-the-site----and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions at all! I look forward to seeing you around the community. ~Bonnie Bright, Founder

  • Hi Alaya, LOL, I forgot to say, spiritual rebirth, the spiritual quest, transcendence, comparative religion, integral psychology and decoding esoteric religious symbols, is my passion/bliss. If I can help you with your project in any way, let me know...A couple times, when my musician friends are writing a song, they'll ask me for advise on universal symbols and archetypes.

  • Hi again Alaya, I think you'll be surprised at how many people on DPA actually do know how you feel. I had a spiritual experience on January 6th, 2000 that saved/changed my life. Half the people I knew and loved, thought I had a mental breakdown, the other half thought I'd been blessed by the holy spirit. I called this, "the am I enlightened or crazy, parodox." It took me twelve years of research (seeking), to answer that question to my satisfaction. I'm familiar with the work of Jung, Campbell and Eliade, but am especially fond of Joseph Campbell.

    Best wishes,

    Scott

  • Hi Alaya, that sounds pretty ambitious! Are you trying to integrate those disciplines and schools of thought into your own consciousness, and have unanswered questions? Or have you already done that, and are trying to express it in a work of art, like a movie or play? I'm curious about the basic theme of your dream work? It sounds like a major epiphany! Can you be a little more specific about it?

    Scott

  • Hi Alaya, welcome. I was wondering about your project; what disciplines exactly, are you trying to integrate?
