I am interested in the relationship between the conscious and the unconscious, particularly those that are responsible for underlying behavioral and cognitive processes. Archetypes and creative mythology are of keen interest.

  • Welcome Karen,

I appreciate your interest in the intersectioin of depth psychology and neuropsychology. I just attended a talk with Dr. Eric Kandel who was awarded the Nobel prize in 2000 for brain research. He stated that his research was intended to bring scientifically verifiable, neurological information related to Freud's belief in the unconscious. During the talk he laid to rest the idea that neuroscience would "do away with" the concept of the unconscious. He even stated that there were unconscious aspects and synchronistic (though he did not use this word) events that turned him to this area of study. Frankly, I was glad to hear him say its not an either/or situation but a both/and between neuroscience and tenets of depth psychology. I'd be interested in what you have learned in your studies. Again, welcome to the Alliance.
