Please share a little about yourself by way of introduction. What draws you to Depth Psychology and what are you looking for from this community?

I have, in the path, discounted depth psychology as too nebulous, vague, and mystical for me; however, having been introduced to a deeper understanding of the subject by a fantastic teacher, I have since become interested in exploring the subject further. Being a part of the Depth Psychology Alliance will, I feel, allow greater understanding from a variety of perspectives.

Do you belong to any other online Psychology-related communities or orgs? If so, which?

No.

  • Hi Nicole. Welcome to the Alliance.Hopefully, once you have a chance to explore the Alliance a bit you'll find a dynamic group of likeminded people who are all deeply drawn to the field of depth psychology--and all its many perspectives. While there are many Jungian analysts and clinicians here, our members come from many walks of life--artists, writers, doctors, healing professionals, counselors, students, business people, etc--so there is much cross-disciplinary knowledge and experience here to be shared.

On that note, I hope you're finding opportunities to engage as you browse the vast content and interact with others. You may want to consider joining the online book club if you haven’t already—There's a new author each month, and you can jump in at anytime and participate at whatever level you wish. Even if you don't have the book for this month, you can read all the comments that have gone on so far and get a feel for the story--or Feb. 1 will bring a wonderful new book from Jungian Analyst Erel Shalit (that is also focused on archetypes) as well as a special online study group on Astrology.

Meanwhile, I see you're in the Bay Area so you may want to join "Bay Area Hive" (under groups) to get updates and connect with people here. We're planning our first in-person meetup and speaker evening in Marin on March 23, so it should be a great opportunity to learn and to actually get some in-person connection. You can see more about the event in the Events section, too.

  • Welcome Nicole,

Glad your curiosity led you to the Alliance. I came upon depth psychology after being fully steeped in quantitative psychology and cognitive/behavioral approaches. Curiously, depth answered questions that the other disciplines either did not have an answer for or discounted as unimportant. Slowly I realized that depth provides the foundational philosophies that were more congruent with my own beliefs and experiences. I believe you will find much of interest within the many blogs, forums, and groups. I look forward to your posts.
