Hi Susan, welcome to the Alliance! For many years before I knew of Depth Psychology, I was a 12-step sponsor for women in my church at the time. Setting aside family predisposition and without making light of the plight of people suffering with addiction, I suspect it often signals an unwillingness to face painful issues and inner turmoil. Depth methods like Active Imagination, journaling, and dream work, etc., are gentle and unthreatening ways into the interior life. Thank you for the important work you do, and I hope you'll meet some like-minded others on the Alliance. Consider attending one of our monthly Deep Meet and Greets which are advertised in the events section.
