Tascha,
I found your comments on the Jung/AA discussion late tonight. Would you believe I have been in the wilderness for 35 years, having never meet a recovering alcoholic who was also a serious student of Jung. I have traveled the world, gone to meetings everywhere but the language of my soul journey I had to hone into books. My dialogues have been with a few women who are individuating, but not "in the program." the isolation I have felt I believe forced me into dialogues with my inner family and gods. So it was a revelation to find your words tonight.
I was three years sober in Santa Fe when my dance teacher gave me "A Pregnant Virgin." I had my first analysis in when I was 4 years sober in '83 and I responded to Marion's work, all of it, up to "Leaving my Father's House." In 1992 I left the American patriarchy for Paris and the Amercian Church with little money, a oneway ticket, and no French. What ensued was a 20 year soul journey, my personal myth that I chronicled. I never left AA but would go to Ireland or England or Mallorca for English speaing meetings when my tank was dry. I have been back in the States for almost four years.
I am in another transformation now, a stripping, and so it was heartening to find you.
I know of Helen Luke's farm, have read her dream book, knew Robert Johnson in the 80's when he would come to Santa Fe. As a matter of fact, I suppose I am in the process of trying to find, again, my "golden thread."
Personally, AA respresents the transcendent function; the spirit of a redeeming force, and I, like you expressed, have gone through the steps on myriad shadow aspects. I have had to find my own interpretation of AA in a very real and vibrant archetypal world. But, as I say, I have been alone in this. who at a meeting would understand my experience of knowing John Barleycorn as an archetype.
Also, I grew up 20 minutes from Stepping Stones, my mother was the baby in the Chappaqua group where Bill often visited. Her best friend, Helen Wynn, was Bill's lover. Helen went to Zurich at one point. Mom always said I reminded her of Helen.
I also think the Jung/Wilson letters are a bit over rated.. Bill of all people could have benefitted from indepth psychology but that is another subject.
I would love to connect.
