  • As you no doubt are aware: stuff of the Spirit cannot be acquired via any technique other than via spontaneous revelation as it were, very frustrating for we educated people!
The qualities of the spirit cannot be mimicked/invoked and are of the nature of a Gift. Peace within, Thankfulness, magnanimity, tenderness, sincerity etc,.
What I personally value is Contentment, which does not exclude difficulty, exasperation etc,. Contentment resides between elation and difficulty.
Stuff of the spirit has no respect of station, wealth, consciousness or intelligence.
The Soul qualities are repelled if wanted and disappear if not. To merely 'Allow' is oft too difficult for the intellectual and of little value to the ignorant.
Jung has no place in the acquisition of these Gifts.
    annoying? Or hilarious!
  • Hi Kenneth,
I agree with you vis Jungians writings in as much of what I have read.
I now am 72 and read the whole of Jung's Collective Works except the RedBook although I did look at it briefly for the odd day or two.
For me there appears to be a lot of Jung worship..
He has given me a depth of understanding re the psyche and its application to prevent self destruction of human life. So Jung's value is in its application as an instrument of healing and as such has proved invaluable.
Also I have come to understand myself and the forces in this world under which I continue to be influenced...
I am left suspended between all that is good in this world and all that is not appreciating and respecting the depth of both.
Now then! Where too from here?
Stuff of the soul cannot be bought or sold.
Stuff of the soul cannot be acquired from another.
NO one knows themselves enough let alone lead/guide other in the area of the spiritual: So..where too post Jung?
I know the answer, BUT only for Mise (me). And some 50 years in the knowing now!
The singular point I too agree with you ..to return to the topic is that Jung (or any other person for that matter) is not able to direct/lead/take the soul on its journey. That is the Individuation pure= ones own lone journey...

  • Dear Kenneth - I do not know how I missed seeing your reply from way back in September, however, I have seen it today so true, we need both the message, mirror or both [the gifts of being with another] to converse and share our lives with.  So glad to hear, at 82, you engage so fully in the arts.  Regards Linda

  • Good afternoon Kenneth - following anything for half a century is devotion on your part and I am saddened to hear your opinion, that the Carl you are familiar with is either misunderstood or misrepresented by some comtemporaries looking back upon his life work.  Myself, on the other hand, and interested in the depth-of-it-all and in my background is 46 years in the field of nursing - mostly critical & intensive - physical (shock/trauma) or mental (trauma-related) recovery and healing.  I was trained traditionally in my field, avoided public exposure and press and was simply content to serve.  I find a balance between what was (traditional) and what is (contemporary) gives me freedom to remember what is significant, remains relevant and matters from across all the generations I have witnessed to date.

You has transitioned many difficult decades and seen huge technological advances.  My hope for you is that you can retain your dignity and own memories of days/times that have passed and matter to you from across your lifespan.  Concerning contemporary culture - let us all simply bask in the sunset and twilight of our golden years.  No one may truly know or understand our sojourn, however, as long as you are at peace within yourself, I am sure the Carl Jung's mystic will continue to generate all kinds of musings for as long as he is remembered.  Traditional Jungian has transitioned into Neo-Jungian as all prime ideologies transform for that is what we human beings do and so, goes our thought processing too.  Somethings never change are those are the pivotal, meaningful and significant matters we remain attached and aligned to.

I did not study Jung in-depth, however, I can relate to many of his concepts and I do believe there is a collective unconscious and also a collective conscience - moral compass.

Carl Jung is a legand and his contributions cross the globe.  It is good your process has been deeply individuated, 82 years (young - at heart?) in the making and looking to widen your horizens within this group.  I too was isolated in my field and work by design for many years, am new within the DPA and having a great time exploring and connected with like-minded from a depth place (novice Jungian) - my theoretical roots are existentialism, transforming counselling theory and Ideodynamic Healing.

A belated wecome to the group and hope you have a great 82nd birthday celebration.

    Regards Linda

  • Hi Kenneth, as I was reading your profile, this statement stuck out:

"At a month away from being 82 years young, and deep into my process of individuation,
I am always looking to widen my horizons, You could be an aid."

To begin with, I'm not sure what you know Kenneth, but for sure, you don't know the difference between a fivefold and Sevenfold Samana, and you don't know the first thing about the 7x7 fold pattern (i.e., the archetype for religious consciousness). If you did, you would be a world famous spiritual teacher, surpassing Jung and Campbell, and all others.

The fact of the matter is, the meaning of that arcane teaching from the Chandogya Upanishads, has been utterly lost for centuries, if not millenia. And if Google search is any indication, me and the people I've explained it to, are the first people in a very long time, to understand it.

In order for me to explain what I know, first I need to get an idea of what you know, thus far. So, are you familiar with Joseph Campbell's teaching on the virgin birth, and Kundalini Yoga (i.e., the seven chakra system)? How familiar are you with comparative religion, and myth? Do you understand what non-duality, and the knowledge of Brahman refers to? Have you ever seen 'The Power of Myth', video series with Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers? Do you have an understanding of Evolutionary Psychiatry's group splitting hypothosis of schizophrenia, and the 'Primary and Secondary Mazeway Resynthesis' phenomenon, characteristic of schizotypal prophets?

Did you experience a bunch of syncronicities, around a sudden vision, ego-death and rebirth, that served as the beginning of your individuation?

How much do you know about the mystics experience?

If you know almost nothing about this stuff, or if you know a great deal, it doesn't matter. I'm just trying to figure out where to begin.

    Best wishes.

    Scott Lampman

  • Hi Kenneth. Greetings, and (a somewhat belated) welcome to the online depth psychology community. I'm glad you've joined us and truly believe you'll find some kindred spirits here.

As you may know, we currently have nearly 1600 members from all over the world. I hope as you explore the community a bit you find a dynamic group of like-minded people who are all deeply drawn by the field of depth psychology. While there are many Jungian analysts and clinical psychologists here, our members come from many walks of life--artists, writers, doctors, healing professionals, counselors, students, business people, etc--so there is much cross-disciplinary knowledge and experience here to be shared.

On that note, there are many opportunities to engage as you browse the site. When you're ready to jump in, please feel free to post a topic for discussion in the forum, respond to someone else's post, or share a link to an article or web site you like.

Also you may want to consider participating in the online book club: In September, we're featuring "Out of the Shadows: A Story of Toni Wolff and Emma Jung" with Eliza... Since the Book Club is all done via writing in an open forum, you can participate at your own level and schedule--and you can join the discussion even if you don't have the book!

In case you need detailed help getting started and navigating the site, you can use the following link---- http://www.depthpsychologyalliance.com/page/navigating-the-site----and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions at all! I look forward to seeing you around the community. ~Bonnie Bright, Founder
