It's easy to forgive people after they've been caught.

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

    brothers and sisters--more egalitarian

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

Not if the victim was your child.

  • 9142233093?profile=originalDonna May

Bonnie, re your question re how to use story around the tragic events:

  • 9142610076?profile=originalSkip Conover

Especially good if you can put the videos on the site.

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

    religion speaking.. Language of forgiveness

  • 9142609855?profile=originalZach Tollen

Easier, at least. Forgiveness is overrated in my experience.

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

    I agree, Zach

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

Not to the one giving it.

  • 9142609855?profile=originalZach Tollen

Good to know there's support on this limb Sharon.

  • 9142610076?profile=originalSkip Conover

When people forgive so easily and quickly, what is happening in their Shadow? Whisper who dares! (This is a rhetorical comment, not requiring response.)

  • 9142233093?profile=originalDonna May

I am thinking of what South Africa did after the end of Aprartheid. The people effected by people via the system, were allowed to tell their stories of what happened to them, how the others' behaviors effected them. It was an important part of the healing for the individuals and the nation.

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

i am sure there are others..

  • indeed, donna

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

Why are we assuming that forgiving is "easy?"

  • 9142610076?profile=originalSkip Conover

Donna May That was obviously useful, but it's not a panacea. I think if we were to ask Susan Scott or other South Africans today, you would find that a LOT of healing is still to be done; as is the case in the American South--obviously.

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

Truly forgiving is a serious psychological shift.

  • 9142233093?profile=originalDonna May

    Skip, nothing is a panacea.

  • 9142610076?profile=originalSkip Conover

    Quite so!

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

i think that forgiveness is derived from religious dictums and carries with it the notion that it is the 'right' thing to do...

  • culturalbrainwashing

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

The New York Times LOVES to terrorize 1. New grads 2. Workers over 50 3. Women over 35

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

    cultural brain washing

  • 9142233093?profile=originalDonna May

Eva speaks truth here. Psychology means "the study of soul." Completely lost in most therapeutic and academic use of the word.

  • 9142610076?profile=originalSkip Conover

Holly Esch I think people outside this group need to hear that loud and clear; time and again!

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

i think the NYT is way to conservative. There are far better newspapers that speak truth

BTW, there a pro Cognitive Behavioral Therapy op Ed on the New York Times asking whether you really need a therapist anymore with all the new mental health software out there now.

  • 9142211682?profile=originalEva Rider

    This is a tragedy

  • 9142574078?profile=originalAleksandar Malecic

Heidegger meditated his way into Nazism

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

once people broaden their points of reference... The flood gates will flow

  • 9142573069?profile=originalCraig Chalquist, PhD

    Look up "Heidegger's Ragnarok" ; )

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

"Curing" depression is as simple as performing mental exercises promoted by a program.

  • It's like going to the game!

  • gym!

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

there is a real need to put forth other op-eds

  • 9142573701?profile=originalHolly Esch

The New York Times op Ed page has a series called "Couch," featuring essays by practicing therapists.

  • 9142573652?profile=originalSharon DiLeo

For the record: I am not a clinical psychologist, nor do I have any interest in becoming a therapist. Like many, I have come to Dr. Jung's work through a circuitous route, that goes back to 1987. My personal independent study is relatively deep, ongoing, and expected to last a lifetime.

  • 9142609855?profile=originalZach Tollen

    Skip: Same here.

  • 9142233093?profile=originalDonna May

Skip, I always enjoy your writings and contributions to the field.

  • Thanks for being here today Zach!

  • 9142573267?profile=originalBonnie Bright
