Active Imagination for Personal Growth

Rue Harrison Whittaker

Sunday July 29, 1–4pm, $45

Twenty years ago I was visited by an archetypal image that I named Indigo Animal. Indigo and I have traveled together through picture and story, meeting other creatures along the way. This encounter with the unconscious is a contemporary example of what CG Jung “discovered” and elaborated in The Red Book, eventually calling the process active imagination. In a slide show of my illustrated book, Indigo Animal and the Lawn Statuary Research Institute, I will present the characteristics of active imagination. Participants will learn how to embark on an inner adventure with active imagination themselves; feel free to bring your own theme or dream image to work with. Together we will investigate both the joys and the potential pitfalls of this most creative of psychological investigations.

Rue Harrison Whittaker, MA, MFT, is an exhibiting artist and a psychotherapist in Oakland whose approach draws on image, metaphor, dream, EMDR, and hypnosis. She is currently preparing the Indigo Animal trilogy for publication.
