  • Latest Activity: Jun 25, 2021

This workshop will focus on the Jungian contributions to the developing field of eco-psychology, a new branch of psychology which examines how our attitudes, values, perceptions and behaviors affect our relationship with the environment.

Hermes, the god of psychology, businessmen, advertising and storytelling, is also the god of dreams. Using the myth of Hermes stealing Apollo's cattle as a mythic base for eco-psychology, we will work with the concept of spirit animals, the ways in which they appear in our psyches, and experience the "seasons of the soul" through a connection with weather and the seasons.

Please bring dreams of animals, landscapes, and weather or seasons to share in discussion groups. The more connected we can be to the land, the more likely we are to protect it, and to carry an active relationship to an ensouled world, an eco-consciousness.

Dennis Merritt, Ph.D., is a Jungian psychoanalyst, therapist/psychotherapist and ecopsychologist who has been in private practice in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin since 1983. He has worked with individual adults across the spectrum of mental disorders and life's difficulties. Dream work and use of the I Ching, in analysis are are important components of his approach. He incorporates sandplay therapy as a subtle yet powerful form of active imagination. He integrates elements of psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, brief therapy and Winnicott into a Jungian ecopsychological perspective.
