Introducing his 1924 translation of the I CHING, Richard Wilhelm wrote "Of far greater significance than the use of the Book of Changes as an oracle is its other use, namely, as a book of wisdom." The core text Wilhelm used was current in 1050 BCE but its sources can be found as early as 1600 BCE. John Beebe, who has had much experience with Cary Baynes’ English rendering of the Wilhelm translation which Jung introduced, will share how he has used this I CHING as a guide to personal integrity.

For many years Phyllis Stowell has also drawn on the I CHING to find illumination in the moment and inspiration for creative work. She will share her recent discovery of a new translation by Margaret J. Pearson that reaches back to an earlier, nature-based form of the oracle, one less gendered than the Confucian sources Wilhelm relied upon.
