Do you have a creative project or a vision that haunts you...something that your heart is yearning to get back into, complete, or begin? Or are you in need of your next creative venture, and you're not sure what it is?
More than anything else, creating something new requires space. Our rational, thinking selves believe that "creative space" means making time in our schedules and physical space in our homes or offices. (You could call this "linear space.")
But the truth is, the creative process works on a different level and requires a different kind of space--I often call it "imaginal" space. Transformative work (and all creative work is transformative) requires imaginal space more than linear space. It's a truism that once we imagine something, it can happen, but unfortunately... our rational minds are limited in their capacity to imagine.
Creative, transformative shifts happen when we dive below the surface of our very smart thinking selves to a place that is murky, messy and full of metaphoric imagery. In this murky, messy, imaginal place we have the transformative space to launch and complete anything we set our minds to. Once we've formed imaginal space around something, linear and physical space often takes care of itself.
