This is an online Community Discussion focusing on gun violence in America from a depth psychological perspective. There will be a small panel with a brief presentation, followed by discussion among panel and participants.
In this free community event participants will:
• Join in an online discussion with Alliance members and Alliance Board members
• Join in community to reflect on the trauma of gun violence in America from a Depth Psychology perspective, discuss the roots of gun violence in the American psyche, its relationship to racism, power, ‘liberty’, etc.
• Discuss ways that we as individuals, as a community, and as a culture might come together to address the wounds that have caused gun violence and that have been caused by gun violence
• Led by James Newell, Ph.D.

James Newell is vice-chair of the Depth Psychology Alliance Board. James is an educator, counselor, personal coach, and professional musician. James teaches online courses on world religions for Central Michigan University, Thomas Edison State University, and other schools.
He earned his master’s in Pastoral Counseling and Theology from Vanderbilt Divinity School, with a focus on Jungian psychology, and his doctorate in History of Religions from Vanderbilt University Graduate School of Religion.
James did his doctoral research on music and religion, with a focus on the South Asian Sufi music, qawwali.
Note: Participants will have the option to turn their web cams on for a more connected and informal conversation.
