“Small and hidden is the door that leads inward, and the entrance is barred by countless prejudices, mistaken assumptions, and fears…cultural values do not drop down like manna from heaven, but are created by the hands of individuals. If things go wrong in the world, this is because something is wrong with the individual, because something is wrong with me. Therefore, if I am sensible, I shall put myself right first”.

~ Carl Jung, CW 10, Par. 327-28

According to Carl Jung human beings require rich and meaningful inner experiences of personal spirituality in order to be healthy and grounded. To attempt to live without a connection to our own inner spiritual vitality is to remain split-off from the source of our very being. From this perspective one of the most healing activities an individual can engage in is to discover and follow an individualized spiritual path. Following one's authentic inner calling can be enormously healing, however, it can also be a lonely and solitary quest. Jung observed that the old religions of the world have largely ceased to function for modern people. Institutional religious ideas and practices no longer correspond to our current sophisticated knowledge of the functioning of the physical world. At the same time, the new myths of science, medicine, political institutions, and popular culture fail to fully address the deep spiritual needs of modern people. In this course we will explore the implications of Jung’s researches for the pursuit of an individual spiritual path which can be both healing and spiritually enriching.

In this course we'll explore the implications of Jung’s researches into the intersection between healing and the spiritual life.
