RENEWING THE ROYAL ROAD: A Summer Dream Intensive
with Meredith Sabini & John Beebe
Co-sponsored with The Dream Institute
Held at CIP Marin, San Rafael
A sea change is underway in dream work toward interactive engagement rather than theory-based, intellectual interpretation. This summer intensive provides an exciting overview of the common ground emerging among previously disparate schools of thought. Those attending will discover ways dreams can be easily obtained and unpacked by staying close to the specifics of narrative sequence, action, scenery, figures, and emotions given by the dream itself. Preconceived notions about the workings of dreams may become less important as your own curiosity and observational skills come into play. This fresh approach relieves therapists from pressure to understand a dream in advance of the client. More suitable is the realistic task of holding open transitional or imaginal space in which a dream can be mutually explored.
The purpose of this seminar is to demonstrate that the dream itself can become a living consultant to the therapeutic process. Each meeting will include one hour of didactic presentation with discussion and one hour of doing hands-on work with dream material brought in by participants and the instructors. Those attending will:
—Learn guidelines for exploring a dream in both its intrapsychic and interpersonal dimensions
—Hear examples of initial dreams that clarified the diagnosis and prognosis for treatment
—Have hands-on experience unpacking dreams and linking their affect and imagery to the client’s life situation and dynamics
—Enjoy selected readings from Bromberg, Ferro, Fosshage, Grotstein, Hillman, Khan, Levenson, Lippmann, Meltzer, Quinox, Palombo, Stevens, Weiss, Whitmont & Perrera, Zeller
—Have consultation time with the instructors, who are well-known dream experts.
This program is suitable for licensed therapists of any experience level and theoretical orientation.
