The Social Dreaming Matrix invites you to sink beneath the conscious mind and share dream material in community. It is an invitation to connect beyond our waking personas and explore what is shared between us. Our focus will be on dreams and associations rather than individual dreamers, allowing collective themes, social implications, and shared visions to emerge. We will tap into the core of what connects us and inspires creativity.

Social Dreaming was founded by Dr. Gordon Lawrence of the Tavistock Institute in the 1980s, though collective dreaming practices have been a part of human culture since our origins. Lawrence’s work drew inspiration from Charlotte Beradt’s Third Reich of Dreams (1968), in which Beradt observed that the people of Germany collectively dreamt of themes intuiting what would soon emerge.

As we grapple with our growing global awareness– particularly in light of the pandemic– may our dreams open windows into the walls between us.

We will start with a short introduction followed by the social dreaming matrix. During the matrix, we will turn our cameras off for deeper, freer participation. After a brief break, we will return to the group with cameras on and reflect together on themes and takeaways.
