The Anatomy of Dreamss

Meredith Sabini, Ph.D.

Berkeley: October 5

When a client tells a dream, where on earth does one begin to unpack it? This program presents the “Anatomy of a Dream,” by which eight basic elements of any dream can be identified and elucidated: the dreams’ setting, atmosphere, characters, main topic, resources, dynamic tensions, the dreamer’s stance, and the outcome. Clinical correlates of each element will be described using case material. Participants will learn, for example, how to distinguish whether a figure in a dream belongs to the dreamer’s subjective or object world; how dynamic tensions in a dream relate to intrapsychic and interpersonal conflicts; how resources shown in dreams correlate with treatability and resilience. You will receive the copyrighted Anatomy protocol, which can be used directly with clients in individual, family, or group therapy settings. This practical, nontheoretical approach can reduce clients’ fears of the dream world and increase their interest in exploring it.
