The story of Persephone and Demeter is the only major Greek myth centering on women’s experience. Through poetry, storytelling, journal writing, ritual, and conversation, we will consider the relevance of this ancient myth to women today. As we approach the equinox and the dark half of the year, we can use the myth of Persephone’s annual descent to the underworld to inform and deepen our understanding of our own journeys and life dreams. It is into the dark earth that we plant seeds of renewal.
Maya Spector is a storyteller, poet, ritualist, and SoulCollage© facilitator. She has performed at The Great Night of Rumi, The Great Night of Soul Poetry and Rumi’s Caravan in the greater Bay Area. Maya is the author of a book of poetry, The Persephone Cycle and a firm believer in the power of images, symbols and the oral tradition to nourish both the individual soul and the soul of the world.
