One of the world's most renowned environmentalists, Dr. Vandana Shiva is the founder of Navdanya, an international movement to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources, especially native seed, and the promotion of organic farming and fair trade. A global thinker, scientist and acclaimed author on the issues of food access, production and distribution, Dr. Shiva sits on the National Board of Organic Standards of India and Prince Charles' panel of experts on Sustainable Agriculture, and also chairs the Commission on the Future of Food in Italy.

Trained as a Physicist with a Ph.D. on the subject, "Hidden Variables and Non-locality in Quantum Theory," from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Dr. Shiva has received honorary Doctorates from University of Paris, University of Western Ontario, University of Oslo and Connecticut College. In 2003 she was named an "environmental hero" by Time Magazine.
