All spiritual traditions have in their prayers and meditations practices to orient to the Self, the place of depth and mystery within each individual. In Sufism these practices have been deeply developed and are referred to as Zikar meditations. In this day long retreat we will engage in traditional and modern Sufi zikar practices, inquiry and sharing to explore and understand how we orient to our depths (archetypal and essential realms of experience) and what arises in our personal unconscious (in terms of our complexes or nafs) to block the remembrance of our souls.

Led by Sheik Raphael Rod Birney MD, a psychiatrist specializing in depth psychotherapy, teacher and student of universal Sufism, the path of the heart. He is the author of Cities of the Soul, which retells a classic Sufi story about the journey of the soul through the different levels of the nafs or personality.
