JOURNEY TO VIETNAM

This November Soldier’s Heart leaders Ed Tick and Kate Dahlstedt will lead our 17th annual Healing and Reconciliation Journey to Viet Nam.  For the first time ever, Soldier’s Heart has organized very special Veterans Day ceremonies and events throughout Viet Nam that will unite American and Vietnamese veterans. There are still limited spots available for this life-changing journey for all our veterans of all wars and all of us (the trip is open to anyone and everyone!). It will begin on October 31st and will conclude on November 14th. Click here for more information about the trip.

KEN BURNS DOCUMENTARY

Timing is perfect as our country re-enters deep discussion about the Vietnam War and its legacy.  As many of you probably know, the Ken Burns’ documentary, The Vietnam War, begins airing this Sunday, September 17th. We encourage you to watch the entire documentary but would also like to share with you a short documentary made by our local PBS network. The Wounds We Feel at Home shares stories from local residents who were impacted by the war and features Soldier’s Heart co-founders Dr. Edward Tick and Kate Dahlstedt. It can be viewed on WMHT Monday evening Sept. 18 at 7:30 or anytime online by clicking here.

NEW ARTICLE ON PTSD

With national attention focused on the Burns documentary and discussions about the war’s aftermath, this is a good time to share Dr. Tick’s recently published article in PTSD Journal. The article, Different Philosophy, Different Result, examines why PTSD is virtually non-existent among the Vietnamese veterans who have fought in many different wars. The article can be viewed online on page 48 by clicking here.

For those in driving distance to Amherst MA, Kate and Ed will lead a viewing of the documentary and community talkback with veterans about the war on Sunday, Sept. 24, 7-9 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Society, 121 N. Pleasant St. Amherst.

Please consider joining us on the journey for what is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and pass on this announcement to any interested friends.  And as always, thank you for your continued support.
