I read the article on Columbus and how it was due to a prophecy that the world would end that he wanted to sail out and convert the rest of the planet. It suggests that although the astrology was wrong and superstitious and naive, it indirectly helped in the discovery by the native Americans of Columbus. America would have been discovered eventually of course, but what I really despise is the conversion mania of our forefathers in Europe. Almost on par with today's extremists. Besides that though, the fact that is shows astrology up in a badlight - prophesying the end of times...incorrectly - is unfortunate for me. What is pleasant to hear is that some of the Catholic priesthood were astrolgers too.
