Good morning, Matthew or perhaps it is good evening, depending upon where you are located in inner/outer time and space..

I thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed your thoughts on Aquarius and its play upon the ascendant/descendant axis.  You've illustrated well the significance of pairing in astrology, i.e , in terms of the cusps on houses 1-12, there is no ascendant without a descendant, no first house without a seventh,  no second without an eighth, and so forth.  No Aquarius without Leo. No venus without mars. The astrological houses being considered the territories of our experience.  I know of a Scorpio man with the last degrees of Aquarius rising, who champions excessively the welfare, and prevention of the extinction of many already endangered species. Animal rights is just one way this can be expressed. Bonnie Bright on the other hand, has led and initiated beautifully, a collective alliance  to engage the world  through soul. Also, I particularly liked the fact that there exists someone such as yourself, who works in education in what might be thought of as a straight or more conventional environment. More than this being a rebellious look at infiltration of a straight community by one having an avant garde rebellious nature, it says to me that people like you are perhaps meant to join with more conventional others  as tradition blends with archetypes and metaphysics, which in the last analysis serves to enlarge and engage our world community.  True Aquarian efforts. I'm sure with your Libra rising you effect and impact others with great finesse and fairness. My compliments to you. Great work!

Thank you for taking the time to quote Dane Rudhyar, (my spelling fails here) a truly great mind and transpersonal Astrologer. He's definitely recommended reading. Keep writing! I'm so enjoying the thought provoking input I find within this and other groups.

  • Hello, Kathleen. Great to make your online acquaintance! I'm not particulary political when it comes to astrological things so it is always interesting to read about  political issues as seen through an astrological lens,  such as yours. Yes, the 7th house natal and progressed cusps are so often over-looked  and so important when it comes to the psychological projections that we place upon others.I As I think about it now, it may in fact, when  progressed into the future years of adulthood, offer a key to developmental unfolding....of personality, relationship and soul.   Yes, us Scorpios do have a tendency to get right down to business and focus....But every time I find myself wanting to take a trip, whether mental verbal, or otherwise I call upon a Gemini/Sag. They are great traveling companions, especially in the Hermes world of ideas!
  • I also enjoyed the quote from Rudhyar, whose books have meant a great deal to me, beginning with my student days, so long ago.  Thank you.

It's also interesting that President Obama, with Aquarius Rising and Leo Sun, considers himself a Transformational president. He ran in 2008 on a platform of Hope and Change. He tackled the difficult issue of health care reform early in his presidency. However, the 2010 midterm election was a serios setback; what Sarah Palin called, "his hopey changey thing" was challenged at the polls. He needed to modify his ambitious program, and has since been engaged in that archtypal Fixed Signs' inner struggle: where can he compromise with the Outer World, and where must he stubbornly uphold matters of principle, as he sees them.  The President, chosen by his fellow citizens, represents the Collective, both literally and symbolically. For a democracy, national elections reveal the direction the Collective has chosen to take.

The progressed Seventh House Cusp and the Progressed Rising Sign, are indicators of personal direction. If we look at the Seventh House Cusp, the attributes of its Sign as "getting to know our Shadow,"  then the progressed Seventh House cusp and its ruling planet, Element and Mode  are interesting symbols for growth.

For example, my clientele includes many Scorpio Rising healers and analysts who had difficulty appreciating their relatives and colleagues with Gemini Sun/Moon/Asc until they progressed into Sagittarius Rising and Gemini on the Seventh House Cusp. Then, after a few years of the new progression, they gradually began to notice and appreciate the positive qualities of "Gemini people" who'd previously seemed scattered, frivolous, overly talkative and "not very deep."

After re-connecting with Geminis at conferences or (relatives) at weddings and funerals, Natal Scoprio Rising would sometimes remark, "the cousin I'd always considered superficial looks different to me now, she's actually accomplished a great deal. While she seemed to scatter her energies as a young person, now she's using her multiple skills in a way that works for her, a creative way that never would have occured to me, or anyone else in the family."
